CSI Happenings
(Create, Share, Inspire)

The PHOTO SHOOT was absolutely great. We took pictures of a beautiful Gothic Church that Mr. Kirby built in Chester. Then we went to the Enloe Home, various cemeteries, other small churches and barns. This was quiet a treat. As each of us looked through our cameras we all saw something different, and some of us did not mind walking through woods and tall grass to get that perfect shot. Sharon McIntyre insisted that we walk in the tall grasses, “what snakes”.

Janet and Danny Clemments invited us to their studio and home, this was a real treat. They have the studio that all of us painters dream of.

After lunch we returned to the Emporium and Lisa Richardson installed each memory stick into her computer and we reviewed our photographs at this point revisions could be made to the photos. BIG THANKS TO LISA RICHARDSON for doing this for us.

Last week some of us went to view the new art works of Jo Fowler and Lavon Hopkins at the East Texas Regional Art Center. What a treat the work was beautiful.

I would like to share an experience that happened the other day. I was in one of the art stores and met a young lady, that had a very large canvas under her arm;  a hand full of watercolor paints and a package of brushes. She approached me and wanted to know what else she needed. She was not sure of the procedure to paint but she had this burning desire to paint. We all remember those days. I admired her determination and I think she left with a better understanding how to go forward with her desire to paint, especially with the correct supplies.

I’ve brought this up before and would like to remind everyone again. On the last Monday of each month we are going to have an “art video” and popcorn 9:00 AM. - 2:00 PM.  I think the videos will help newly interested persons to see that it is possible for them to paint. I’ve often said that painting is 90% desire and 10% is the mechanics.

Next month we are going to discuss: Materials, surfaces, paints, contrast, edges, value, aerial perspective and color harmony. Okay, we will start out slow and cover only two of the items listed above.

Sincerely,
Jane Martin
