Danny Clements Retrospective Show
Artists Danny
and Janet Clements, regular art exhibitors at Tyler County Art League
for many years, would like to invite you to a retrospective art exhibit at Cole
Art Center in Nacogdoches.
Last year, Stephen F. Austin State University contacted the Clements
about the selection of Danny’s art to become part of the new art building’s
permanent collection.
After a visit by art faculty members, Dr. David Lewis – curator, and Weelynd
McMullen – Cole Art Center Director, Danny was offered a retrospective of his
work at Cole Art Center. The gentlemen have visited with the Clements in
Chester, Texas several times, where they viewed artwork, made selections for
the shows, and, recently, picked up the art.
Upon viewing the Clements art on display, they also offered Janet the
opportunity to exhibit in the upstairs gallery area at Cole.
A retrospective in art is an overview of the artist’s work. Danny has been a
practicing artist participating in various art venues since 1970, when he
received the first Master of Fine Arts Degree from SFA.
Over one hundred pieces of his work, spanning the last fifty years, will be on
display at the large main gallery area at Cole. Janet will have over seventy
paintings and drawings shown in the upstairs gallery. As artists and patrons of
TCAL you may recognize some of their works, but the majority have not been
exhibited in this area.
The Cole Art Center, associated with Stephen F. Austin State University,
is in old downtown Nacogdoches. It occupies the old opera house/theater
building that has been turned into a beautiful art exhibition space, with white
walls, tall ceilings, hardwood floors, aluminum railings, and even an elevator.

The Danny Clements Retrospective show will officially open on July 8
and close August 11. The art reception will be held on July 12 from 5
until 7 pm. The Clements plan to be on site, beginning at 3 pm, to
welcome you.
The Clements hope that you and other members of TCAL will be able to attend
their show. This is an important event for these two artists, and they would
love to share with you the art that they have created.
We will send a reminder concerning the exhibitions toward the end of June.
Feel free to contact TCAL if you have any questions or to get more information
on personally contacting the Clements.
